What is the World’s Biggest Pub Quiz about?

The World’s Biggest Pub Quiz was set up by PubAid in 2016, and is being delivered in 2020 in partnership with Action Against Hunger . The pub industry and everyone interested in hosting or attending a quiz, will be asked to take part in the World’s Biggest Pub Quiz and raise money for great causes.

Pubs are encouraged to raise money for their chosen charity, but also to consider supporting Action Against Hunger, the leading charity in the fight to end child malnutrition.

What is PubAid?

Formed in 2009, PubAid is a volunteer working party dedicated to celebrating the great work done by UK pubs for charities.

The team works alongside the press and via social media to showcase the great work that pubs and their customers do for charity in raising over £100,000,000 every year.

Initiatives include a survey to find out how much pubs are raising for charity and identifying which charities benefit the most from their fundraising. PubAid also runs the Fundraiser of the Year and with the All-Party Parliamentary Beer Group in selecting the Corporate Fundraiser of the Year.

PubAid was founded by: Des O'Flanagan (Ex S&N MD), Keith Knowles OBE (CEO, Beds and Bars) and Tim Sykes (Chairman, Beds and Bars). They are joined by Dr Martin Rawlings MBE (Ex BBPA), Nick Bish (Ex ALMR), Mike Clist (CEO BII), Yaser Martini (various roles including non exec director at Cirrus Inns, and shareholder at Sipsmith Independent Spirits), Ross Piggott (RP Databases), James Cuthbertson (Instinctive PR), Paul Hegarty Hon Secretary APPBG, Andy Slee Chairman One Voice and Robert Humphreys Ex APPBG.

When is the World’s Biggest Pub Quiz?

The quiz runs from Sunday 8 March - Thursday 12 March 2020. You choose the date to tie in with your pub or site, perhaps your regular quiz night. However, if these dates are not suitable, just tell us when you register.

How do I register?

You can register by clicking here and fully completing the registration form taking care to input your details correctly as they will automatically upload on the system, and show on our World’s Biggest Pub Quiz list.

Will you supply the Quiz?

Yes. We will produce two quizzes and post your quiz pack in advance.

How long is the Quiz?

We expect the quiz itself to last between 60 minutes and 90 minutes, but does depend on the person delivering the quiz.

Will you supply the answers?

Yes they will be sent at the same time as the quiz itself and posted out to you towards the end of February 2020.  

Is there any cost to enter my pub ?

No, no charge.

What if I can’t hold a quiz on that day?

If you can’t hold your quiz or fundraising activity on 8-12 March 2020,  don’t worry, you can still take part and host your event at a suitable time and date for you and the people taking part. Just click TBC when you register.

What if I have not received the quiz?

Get in touch with us and we will resend the quiz and answers.

I am part of a pub chain, can we join as a group of pubs?

Yes you can join as a group of pubs. Please get in touch with us when you have registered so that we know you are all taking part as a team.

Why is my pub spelt wrong on the website?

Our list is dependent on who completed the registration. If the pub is spelt incorrectly on completion of the form it will appear incorrectly on the website. Get in touch to let us know and we’ll change it.

Is there a cut off date after which I cannot register ?

Yes, the cut off date to receive a pack in the post before the 8th March is 3pm Monday 2nd March 2020.. However, you can continue to register until the 31st March if you intend to use the digital quiz pack. 

Can a non UK based pub, club or bar take part?

Yes, absolutely.

Can I use my own quiz?

Yes if you'd like to. You can use parts of ours as well.

Do I need to provide a quiz master?

Yes

How do I pay in the money I have raised?

After your quiz it’s time to count up the cash and make sure that it reaches your chosen charity. If you’re fundraising for Action Against Hunger you can pay in funds in the following ways:

If I am raising money for more than one charity who do I send the money to?

If you are splitting the money between Action Against Hunger and other charities, for the amount you pay to your other chosen charities, please contact them directly to find out how you pay in your money.

I don’t work in a pub, can I still be involved?

Anyone can take part in the World’s Biggest Pub Quiz - whether you run or work in a pub, a sports or community club or group, or you just want to run a quiz at home. Register here and we’ll be in touch. You are more than welcome to encourage your local pub to get involved too.

My local pub isn’t interested in taking part, can I still get involved?

Yes of course. You could find another pub to enter a quiz team near you, or see if your local sports club or community group are interested in getting involved. Register here and we’ll be in touch.

How will potential quiz goers know which pubs are participating?

All the registered pubs are listed online so visitors to the website will be able to search by town / pub name / postcode. We of course hope you will publicize the event.

When do I pay in the money I have raised?

As soon as you can after your event. If possible, please pay in all monies by 13th April 2020.

Do you have any fundraising ideas and tips to help us raise as much as possible?

Your quiz pack is full of hints and tips to help you raise as much as possible. If you are fundraising for Action Against Hunger please email pubquiz@actionagainsthunger.org.uk for further help and support, or contact your chosen charity directly so they can help.

Can we have more posters and other marketing materials?

Everyone taking part in the World’s Biggest Pub Quiz will receive posters, the quiz and answer sheets. The quiz poster will allow you to write in the date when your pub or site is hosting the event. If you are raising money for Action Against Hunger they can also send you more fundraising materials such as collection tins and banners - just email pubquiz@actionagainsthunger.org.uk Or contact your chosen charity directly so they can help.

Are there promotional materials I can download from the website?

Yes, there will be a download section where you can access the quiz poster and the quiz questions.

Do you have a template press release? 

Not yet, but press releases will be available in January 2020.

How many pubs do you think will participate?

Last year there were over 1,800 and this year we are hoping it will be bigger and better! We’re aiming to have 2,000 participating pubs in 2020.

Why is my pub not appearing on the list?

Please let us know what your pub is called and we will investigate. You need to register before your pub will appear on the list.
